During a holiday staying at Mandina Lodges three years ago Brian Harrold and Pamela Morgan committed to help the local community after exploring the area surrounding the Lodges with their guide.
The couple stumbled across a nearby village and decided they wanted to help after being confronted with the basic conditions and lack of clean water. After promising help they returned to the village on a second trip to The Gambia and following consultations with the villages it was decided that a clean water supply and vegetable garden to earn money were most essential.
Since that day the couple have returned to the country numerous times and spent £120,000 of their own savings. The village of Bafaluto now has a clean water supply and the vegetable garden which will pay for the upkeep of the pump. Brian and Pamela have now set up a charity to help other villages PING (People In Need in The Gambia) and aim to raise £1 million.
