A new law comes into effect this month in The Gambia preventing motorists from using mobile phones whilst driving. The law was recently passed by Gambian Parliament and a statement issued by the country’s Inspector General of Police earlier this week stated that it will become effective this month.
New legislation also makes it compulsory for motorists and passengers to use seatbelts whilst on the roads. A fine of between 1,000 and 2,000 dalasi (£25 to £50) will be imposed for anyone found breaking the law.
