Rough Guides has selected what it considers to be the best travel experiences in 2009 and the Granitola Festival in Casamaccioli, Corsica is amongst the top nine worldwide events. A Cerca et a Granitola is celebrated in small villages across the island over Easter.
During the festival a procession of dozens of hooded monks from four local monasteries make their way through the villages on Good Friday chanting, singing and spiralling through the streets. It truly is an incredible sight to witness.
Casamaccioli is in central Corsica close to the historic town of Corté.
