The number of passengers travelling through the four main commercial airports in Corsica has increased gradually in recent years and in 2008 it surpassed 2.5 million. The figures vary greatly at different times of year, with air traffic increasing significantly during the summer months, indicating the island’s popularity as a holiday destination.
Although the majority of traffic is from mainland France, there are now a number of low cost flights to the UK as well as scheduled and charter services. The busiest airport on the island is Ajaccio which in 2008 handled just over a million passengers.
