The Gambia Experience and Corsican Places were both winners at the prestigious 2017 British Travel Awards last night. The Gambia Experience received the Silver award for “Best Small Holiday Company to Africa” and Corsican Places also received Silver for “Best Small Holiday Company to Western Europe”. The announcements were made on 29 November at a glamorous Gala Awards ceremony, held in London and attended by more than a thousand travel industry people.

The Gambia Experience and Corsican Places are part of parent company, Serenity Holidays, who are based in Hampshire, and both celebrated their 30-year anniversaries in 2017.

The Gambia Experience offers year-round package and tailormade holidays to The Gambia, featuring direct flights and a wide range of quality accommodation, along with further options in neighbouring Senegal. It also offers a variety of engaging cultural and wildlife tours and, as a world-class birding destination, the company offers a variety of birding activities, including tours led by BBC presenter, Chris Packham.

Corsican Places offers holidays from May to October, with an extensive choice of self-catering and hotel-based accommodation throughout the island, operating several flights into both the north and south. Highlighting romantic hideaways, family beach holidays, spectacular villa retreats, self-drive touring itineraries and walking and cycling packages, the operator’s collection successfully reflects the variety of holidays available on the Mediterranean island.

Serenity Holidays’ director Chris Ayling commented: “We’re thrilled to receive these prestigious awards which is a testament to the hard work of our dedicated staff, both here in the UK and those based in our Gambia and Corsica resort offices. It’s particularly pleasing as these awards are voted for by the public and this is the second year in a row we’ve come home with two British Travel Awards. Moving forward, we will continue to support our customers and travel agents, to ensure for the best holiday experience possible.”

British Travel Awards’ chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “Both The Gambia Experience and Corsican Places are to be congratulated on winning Silver awards in their categories. The British Travel Awards is the largest consumer voted awards programme in the world, and this year 722,473 votes were cast by the travelling public to determine the winners, so to win is truly an accolade and a badge of excellence.

The British Travel Awards is a proudly independent organisation, verified by leading global business practitioners - Deloitte. The BTAs are the only travel industry accolade voted for exclusively by the consumer, and the Awards serve to recognise all that is great about travel, as experienced by the travelling consumer.”

BRITISH TRAVEL AWARDS

The British Travel Awards is the largest awards programme in the UK created to reward the best companies in travel.  The British Travel Awards are easily the most recognisable of all travel industry accolades amongst consumer and industry professionals alike with categories spanning all types of holiday experience - transport, destination, cruise, customer service, holiday extras, and accommodation. The British Travel Awards symbol is the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really is the best in the business. The British Travel Awards are funded by the registration fees and patronage of sponsors who have identified the ROI from increased brand visibility and sales opportunities as the consumer and trade audience grows exponentially year-on-year.
